Opponents of Tobacco Tax Testify
The Senate Assessment and Taxation Committee this week is hearing from opponents and supporters of a tobacco tax increase. The bill would increase the state?s cigarette tax from 79 cents to $1.34 per pack. The tax for other types of tobacco would increase from 10 to 40 percent of the wholesale cost. Yesterday opponents lined up to testify against the legislation. Stephen Koranda has more.
