81 Drive-In
By Nancy Anderson
I grew up in Valley Center and 81 Drive-In was close to us. My older brothers and sister used to get their friends to get in the trunk of the car and get into the drive-in free. The tricky part was getting them out of the trunk without getting caught.
My little sister and I went to the front of the drive-in parking lot to swing on the swings before the movie. The movies I remember the best were Ma and Pa Kettle movies. Sometimes we had to move several times before we got a speaker that worked. Always had to remember to take it out of the window so we wouldn’t pull it off.
