Wichita’s Final Friday Gets New Look For New Year
Thu, January 26, 2012
Wichita’s Final Friday art gallery crawl this week will have a new look and feature the first monthly drawing for “Art Bucks” in attempt to spur local art sales.
The Wichita Arts Council teamed with the Downtown Development Corporation to create the campaign, which features a new logo created pro bono by the Greteman Group. On Friday, gallery goers can expect to see the new signs and stickers in and around each participating gallery. Ann Keefer, vice president of marketing at the Downtown Development Corporation says after more than 15 years, they needed a good way to bring the participating venues together.
“One of the comments that we hear a lot from the public is that it is hard for them to identify what venues are participating each month,” says Keefer. “So, part of this campaign is going to be to get signage in the way of window clings that will be distributed to all the Final Friday participants.”
Keefer says in addition, there will be cards available at the venues that list 10 tips to purchasing art or appreciating art.
“We all know that Final Friday has become this huge, mega social gathering of people,” says Keefer. “But to be quite honest, it hasn’t stimulated a lot of sales in art, so the Arts Council is going to try to get the message out there of how investing in art is actually a good investment and it also helps the economy, the local economy to invest in local artists.”
Starting this month the Arts Council will also be holding a drawing for $100 to be used to buy art from one of the participating vendors.
