A new CD released by the Numero Group label recalls a local family's contributions to Wichita's music and culture. In the late 1960s Wichita was racially segregated. But that didn't stop the Smart Brothers Band from attracting mixed race audiences at Smart's Palace. Nearly every night The Smart Brothers band, including Leroy, Vernon, John and Richard, packed the house at the family's club at 1009 East 9th Street.
