Gov. Sam Brownback’s administration will release the details of a new school finance proposal this week. The State Board of Education will hear the plan during a meeting on Wednesday.
Mark Tallman, with the Kansas Association of School Boards, says school administrators are very interested in seeing how the plan would affect districts.
“There’s a great deal of anticipation about this,” says Tallman. “But I think we’re really waiting to see what the details are.”
Brownback’s office has released a few elements of the plan, saying school districts would not see their state aid decrease next year. The proposal would also eliminate caps on local property taxes used to supplement state funding.
