A new activists group has formed to try to convince Wichita voters that a guest tax rebate for a planned downtown boutique hotel is not in their best interest. KMUW’s Carla Eckels reports.
A leader of the group called Tax Fairness for All Wichitans says the organization will campaign to stop the planned Ambassador Hotel from keeping 75 percent of the guest tax it collects over the next 15 years.
Spokesperson Bob Weeks:
“We firmly believe taxation is a public function, should be used for things that the public benefits from not just one single person or group of people as it is in this case,” says Weeks.
The effort is partially funded by Americans for Prosperity, who initiated the successful petition drive, which lead to the city wide vote scheduled for February 28
