Former Wichita School Board member and Methodist Pastor, Tyrone Gordon was the keynote speaker at a Martin Luther King, Jr. Corporate Award Breakfast this morning. KMUW’s Carla Eckels reports.
Gordon, who now pastors a church in Texas told the crowd it’s hard to find prophetic voices like Martin Luther King, Jr. today: “And I kept wondering why not? Because real prophets can’t be domesticated, real prophets, can’t be bought off, they refuse to be silent, they refuse to go along to get along. They speak truth to power and let the chips fall where they may.”
The King breakfast was hosted by the W.G. Williams Community Foundation which awards academic scholarships annually. Other King observances include an event at the Wichita Orpheum Sunday night and a community wide service at the Wichita State University Metroplex on Monday.
