Inter-Faith Ministries will host their annual Souper Bowl event Friday to increase awareness of hunger insecurity in the Wichita area.
The 12th annual event will feature bottomless bowls of soup from area restaurants, including Old Mill Tasty Shop and The Copper Kettle.
The money raised will be used to help feed people who are experiencing hunger in the Wichita area.
Sandi Harrison, marketing director at Inter-Faith Ministries says the main reason they hold the event it to let people know about the hunger that exists in the community.
“There are one in seven families in Wichita who are living with hunger insecurity,” said Harrison. “And what that means is that they just are not positive where their next meal is going to come from, if they are going to be faced with paying a medical bill instead of buying food, or mortgage payments, rent, even power and utilities.”
“Sometimes people have to choose to make those payments over buying food,” said Harrison. “The other thing is often they cannot buy the most healthy food.”
The Inter-Faith Ministries Souper Bowl will be held Friday from 11:30 to 1pm at First Presbyterian Church at 525 N Broadway in Wichita.
Tickets are $15 at the door at $13.50 if purchased in advance.
