Opponents of Gov. Sam Brownback’s plan to cut income taxes say it would ultimately hurt working families. Terry Forsyth, head of the Working Kansas Alliance, says the governor should focus more on legislation that would directly grow jobs, to improve the state economy.
Forsyth says the governor’s tax proposal would actually increase taxes paid by low-wage Kansas workers.
“If you are a minimum age worker or you are an entry wage worker, your taxes keep going up,” says Forsyth. “Are you going to be able to stay here. Are you going to be able to survive. Are you going to be able to thrive as a family.”
Gov. Brownback has said his proposal will help boost job growth and includes more money for programs like Medicaid, that help low-income Kansans.
