Budget Includes Cuts to Family Planning

Abortion rights supporters are hoping Governor Mark Parkinson will veto a funding cut for two Planned Parenthood clinics. A provision in the budget that passed the legislature would route federal funding away from clinics in Wichita and Hays. Yesterday abortion rights supporters delivered hundreds of petitions to the governor?s office, urging him to veto the cut. Stephen Koranda has more.

The Kansas House will continue debate today on a budget plan that would spare education and social services from deep cuts, but won’t balance without a tax increase. A coalition of Democrats and moderate Republicans drafted the proposal and introduced it on the House floor yesterday.
