In this edition of the Music Roundup, we preview a new PBS series, Latin Music USA, airing in October in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.

If you want to learn more about Latin music in America, an excellent place to start is John Storm Robert's book, The Latin Tinge. It traces the music further back in time and goes deeper into the many artists, styles and influences that have held sway over the years. Roberts also makes a compelling case for the idea that American popular music is simply unthinkable without the successive waves of Latin styles that took hold here over the last century.

Here on KMUW, Global Village continues its celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month with a month-long October feature devoted to the diverse and intriguing world of Peruvian music and the Global Village Top 30 show Friday October 2nd and every Friday on KMUW HD-2 will focus on some of the best of the new Latin releases out now.

Listen to the Music Roundup Wednesdays on Morning Edition for selected concert picks and a variety of music-related features, reviews and special reports ? and check here for the area?s most comprehensive regional concert listings.
