Tanya Tandoc:

2/10: Tacos Gallo

Old Town finally has a bona fide food truck.

1/27: Passage to India

I love the diversity of Indian cuisine, from spice-coated tandoori oven chicken to crispy fried samosas.

1/13: The Donut Whole

The Donut Whole is a sugar-coated, caffeine-fueled dream come true.

12/30: Usuluteco

Salvadoran pupusas are comfort food of the best kind—hand-patted tortillas that are crispy, fried, cheesy, chewy pillows of corn.

12/16: Rich Vliet and Norma Sowell

Rich Vliet and Norma Sowell have been friends, teachers and touchstones for me from the very beginning of my professional culinary career. I’m going to miss them so much.

12/2: Bella Luna Cafe

Chef Matteo Taha’s Mediterranean-influenced bistro has a sweet, neighborhood-y feel, with friendly service and delicious food.

11/18: Food Essays

I have a particular passion for food essays that started when I was a little girl.

11/4: Connecticut Food Vacation

I just returned to Kansas after a week in Connecticut. I got a good sample of the wonderful food from the area…and there was lots of it.

10/21: Chester’s Chophouse

Chester’s is beautiful, all dark and clubby and sleek. Their meticulous attention to detail is apparent everywhere you look.

10/7: Bocconcini

Authentic Italian food is a lot more subtle than American Italian. Ingredients are simple and their flavors are allowed to shine.

9/23: Kanai

I adore sushi and will bargain outrageously with my non-sushi-loving family to get to go eat it.

9/9: Comfort Foods/Knolla’s Pizza

Because we are wired the way we are, when we are stressed, we turn to foods that feel comfortable, reassuring, and safe.

8/26: Nifty Nut House

The Nifty Nut House is a giant warehouse filled to the ceiling with every kind of candy, nut, crunchy-salty snack, chocolate, and dried fruit that you can imagine.

8/12: Kababs

I have heard many Midwestern people complain that they don’t like the taste of curry, and therefore will not eat Indian food at all. I can relate to that, but I just find curry powder pretty boring.

7/29: Hot Food

Everything in my garden is dead. The tomatoes are crispy dead with a side of wilt. The pumpkin plants shriveled up and their lovely umbrella leaves melted away last week.
