Book Review:

The Gate at the Stairs by Lorrie Moore

Lorrie Moore's first prize for writing came at the age of 19 when she won a fiction contest in Seventeen magazine. From that not entirely auspicious beginning, she has become one of the country's most admired short fiction writers, winning the more prestigious O.Henry award and finding one of her stories, from her Birds of America collection, included in The Best American Short Stories of the Century. She's branched out to novels, including the wonderfully titled Who Will Run the Frog Hospital? and Anagrams and like her short stories, they have been praised both for their wit and poignancy. KMUW book critic Sarah Bagby is here now with word on Moore's latest book. You can hear Sarah Bagby's book reviews the second and fourth Mondays of every month on Morning Edition and find additional information about the books and authors reviewed here.
