Pearl of China by Anchee Min

Acclaimed author Anchee Min was born in China during the Cultural Revolution and later fled to the United States. Here she not only learned English, but became a powerful and successful writer in the language as well, winning critical acclaim for her moving memoir, Red Azalea, and a series of historical novels set in China from the Imperial age through the Communist era. KMUW book critic Sarah Bagby here reviews Min’s newest book based on the life of Pearl S. Buck, the Nobel Prize winning author author who, like Min, was born in China, but was later forced to leave during a time of great political unrest.

And be sure to join us Monday, May 3rd during Morning Edition for an interview with Anchee Min. That interview will also be posted in entirety on the the KMUW website.

You can hear Sarah Bagby's book reviews the second and fourth Mondays of every month on Morning Edition and find them posted here with additional information about the books and authors.
