Book Review:

Brooklyn by Colm Toibin

Though Colm Toibin was raised in Ireland, his interests and work took him variously to Spain, Argentina, Sudan, Egypt and, more recently, America. His writing has been equally diverse, ranging from current affairs to literary criticism, from collections of essays to travel books and plays. But it is as a novelist that Toibin has won greatest acclaim, picking up the E.M Forester Prize and being shortlisted twice for the prestigious Man Booker Prize, among others. Now with his new novel he explores many themes through the story of an Irish immigrant to New York in the '50s. KMUW book critic Sarah Bagby has more.

You can hear Sarah Bagby's book reviews the second and fourth Mondays of every month on Morning Edition or listen online, anytime, and find additional information about the books and authors reviewed here.
