Grieving couples, founding fathers, and the devil himself talk the spotlight in this week’s At Play.
Wichita Community Theatre begins its 66th season with a production of David Lindsday-Abaire’s 2007 Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Rabbit Hole. The play follows a couple struggling to return to their daily lives after the death of their four-year-old son. When another family member announces her pregnancy the contrast in the couple’s feelings come into fuller view. Rabbit Hole has been called “a deeply human look at one family’s attempts to come to terms with the impossible and emerge stronger than before.”
Performances are this Wednesday, September 7 through Sunday, September 11 with 8 p.m. curtain times Wednesday-Saturday and a 7 p.m. performance on Sunday. Discounted tickets are available for the opening night performance.
Wichita Center For the Arts presents Bill W. and Dr. Bob September 21-25. Directed by Joyce Cavarozzi the play tells the story of how an accidental meeting between a stockbroker and a surgeon led to the founding of Alcoholics Anonymous. Written by Samuel Shem and Janet Surry, the 2007 script blends elements of comedy with its somber, sobering subject matter.
Opening this Thursday at Mosley Street Melodrama it’s The Devil Wore Wranglers, written by Carol Hughes, followed by Halloween Spooktacular 2011 Musical Comedy Revue. The show runs now through October 29 with performances each Thursday-Saturday.
