From kindergarten to an evil infested cabin in the woods this week’s At Play has it all.

Opening this Friday, September 23 at Cabaret Old Town, it’s Evil Dead: The Musical. Combining elements of the classic camp horror films Evil Dead, Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness, the stage production tells the story of five college students who unleash a force that transforms them into demons.  Only a man and his chainsaw and a few song and dance numbers can set things right.

Buoyed by songs such as “Do the Necronomicon,” “All the Men in My Life Keep Getting Killed by Candarian Demons,” and “Bit Part Demon,” Evil Dead: The Musical has been heralded as the next Rocky Horror Picture Show by The New York Times and has developed a rather rabid following since its 2003 debut. Cabaret Old Town presents the show Friday and Saturday evenings with some Thursday performances. The show is for mature audiences only.

Also opening this week is Bill W. and Dr. Bob at Wichita Center for the Arts from Wednesday until Saturday evening and with a closing Sunday matinee. The Kechi Playhouse closes out its run of All I Really Needed To Know I Learned in Kindergarten this Sunday. The Wichita State University School of Performing Arts opens Good News!, a musical for the whole family on September 29 at Wilner Auditorium on the WSU campus.
