Alfred Hitchcock adaptations, award winners and absurdist sketch comedy are all represented in this week’s At Play.
The Wichita State University School of Performing Arts presents Patrick Barlow’s The 39 Steps October 27-30 at Wilner Auditorium. The recent Broadway hit was adapted from the John Buchanan novel and the classic Alfred Hitchcock film. Described as a tongue-in-cheek tour de force it features four actors playing dozens of roles.
Mosley Street Melodrama continues its run of The Devil Wore Wranglers now through the end of the month each Thursday, Friday and Saturday and in November the theatre will present Goodnight Gracie! Did You Lose Your Garland? written by Wichita theatre veteran Tom Frye.
Cabaret Old Town was host last week to the 2010-2011 Mary Jane Teall Awards. Named after pioneering theatre artist Mary Jane Teall, the awards are presented in recognition of individual members and groups within the Wichita Theatre Community.

On Saturday, October 15 local absurdist sketch comedy and performance art group Men’s Scrapbooking Club will celebrate the launch of its website with an evening of variety at Rock Island Live. The evening will include a performance from Men’s Scrapbooking Club as well as music from local act Antibacterial Cereal and meta performance DJ Cutter J The Absurdist.
