Musical comedy murders, a Stephen Sondheim classic, and an evening of plays by Samuel Beckett are all featured in this week’s At Play.
Wichita Community Theatre presents The Musical Comedy Murders of the 1940s starting this Thursday, October 20 until Sunday November 6. With the Stage Door Slasher on the loose a creative team gathers at a New York estate replete with sliding panels, secret passageways and all the other elements required for an evening of murder, music, and side-splitting humor. This production of the John Bishop musical farce is directed by John K. Reel.
Wichita playwright and actor Michael Weber presents 5 By Beckett at the Fisch Haus on Saturday, October 29. This evening of short plays by the late Irish writer Samuel Beckett, perhaps best known for Waiting For Godot, Krapp’s Last Tape, and Endgame, will include performances of the short plays Quad, Play, Catastrophe, Come and Go, and What Where. This is a free, one-night-only performance.
The Forum Theatre production of Stephen Sondheim’s 1962 comedy A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum runs now through October 30 with performances Thursday-Saturday at 8 p.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday matinees.
And Friends University’s Music Theatre program presents the Pirates of Penzance this Thursday, October 21 through Sunday, October 23 at the Sebits Auditorium on the Friends campus. Performances are Thursday-Saturday at 7:30 p.m. with a 2 p.m. Sunday matinee.
