60 Stories. Tell us your story...
We are a complex people made up of many interesting stories. In celebration of KMUW's 60th year on air, we will cover the stories that make up the people of South Central Kansas. Knowing that things do not happen in isolation but are the result of a series of connections, we want to start a discussion of how we got to where we are today.
A group of interested persons met in December and developed 12 themes to build the stories around. These are:
- The Land/Geography/Transportation
- Food/Cuisine
- Entrepreneurs/Business
- Media
- Defining Events
- Education / Demographics
- Downtown / Revitalization
- Art / Architecture
- Peoples
- Politics / Beliefs
- Lifestyle / Entertainment
Some of the stories will be "big" stories that we all remember. Some stories will be stories of individual courage and determination known only to a few. Please share your stories with us:
Here are some idea starters in no particular order: The Big Ditch, Kellogg Saga, White Castle/Kings X, Cero's Candy, Big Dog Motorcycles, 1991 Tornado, Tripodal, Operation Rescue, Herman Hills Riots, Final Fridays, WSU Football, Wichita Music Theatre, Magazines and Newspapers, Carlos O'Kelly's, Santa and Toy Boy, School Desegregation, Turnpike, Coffee Shops, Bookstores, East/West Divide, Immigration, 81 Speedway, and the story of the guy who always ate breakfast at the corner diner.
KMUW will determine, in its sole and absolute discretion, which, if any, submissions will be used and reserves the right to reject or use any story or idea submitted. If a story is used, KMUW also reserves the right to edit, correct grammatical errors and/or misspellings, reduce in size and/or standardize the language and sentence structure for broadcast purposes or publication in any media without review or approval by the submitting person.
