May has been proclaimed Bicycle Month. The city of Wichita is celebrating by highlighting recent bike path improvements and by looking forward to what's next. There are also many bicycle-related events planned throughout the city.

May 17 is Bike to Work Day, which will include breakfast stations around Wichita from 7:00 to 9:00 and free lunch at Old Town Square from 11:30 to 1:30.

US Attorney Prepared To Go To Court Over Kansas' New Gun Law

On April 26, US Attorney General Eric Holder sent a letter to Gov. Sam Brownback that states the new Kansas law attempting to block federal regulation of some guns is unconstitutional. That new law took effect April 25, just one day earlier.

People who enjoy boating on the Arkansas River now have a new place to access the river.

A public use floating dock was installed recently on the river behind Gander Mountain in downtown Wichita.

The new dock was part of a long-time comprehensive plan by the Ark River Coalition and the city’s park board. The Wichita City Council adopted a resolution agreeing to allow for public use of the dock for the next decade.

For decades Bateson has worked in the field of anthropology. She is a Harvard and Radcliffe graduate and the daughter of social anthropologist Margaret Mead and cybernetics pioneer Gregory Bateson. She’s written on religion, family dynamics and aging but now is deeply involved in environmental issues.

On September 5, 2012, WSU President John Bardo kicked off a campus and community-wide strategic planning process. He appointed a steering committee made up of WSU personnel, community and business leaders, plus others with a stake in the future of WSU and the region.
