Wild Music: The Sounds & Songs of LifeBack to Events
Frogs croak. A baby laughs. Cars motors’ roar. These elements plus millions of other players in the symphony of life are celebrated in Wild Music: The Sounds & Songs of Life national traveling exhibition opening to the public at Exploration Place on Saturday, Feb. 6. Visitors will enter three immersive environments: The Edge of the Forest, The Ocean Deeps, and The Town, each evoking rich sound experiences, and designed to expand their knowledge of what defines music.
Exhibit Highlights
Visitors will:
-Customize a soundscape using a virtual sound mixer.
-Play acoustic and electronic instruments to create music in the Jamming Room,
-Use a hydrophone suspended under water to hear a trolling motor, a shower, an underwater speaker, a bubbler, and a ratchet.
-Record a video of how music has affected their lives.
-Manipulate their own voice and compare it to a bird’s.
Wild Music was developed by the Science Museum of Minnesota, the Association of Science-Technology Centers, and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro School of Music, with major funding from the National Science Foundation and additional support from Harman International and NEC Foundation of America.

Wild Music is open through Sunday, April 25. This is the second traveling exhibit Exploration Place is hosting. Visitors can also still enjoy The Adventures of Mr. Potato Head which will be at Exploration Place through Sunday, May 9. Both traveling exhibits are included in general museum admission and free for Members. Exploration Place offers visitors of all ages interactive environments, hands-on experiences, Kansas’ largest domed theater, imaginative spaces, and outdoor recreation, all located on a 20-acre site along the scenic Arkansas River in downtown Wichita, Kan.
