Singing Quakers Annual Christmas Candlelight ConcertBack to Events
The Friends University Singing Quakers will present their annual Christmas Candlelight Concert Dec. 3-6 in Sebits Auditorium in the Riney Fine Arts Center on Friends University’s Wichita campus. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 3-5 and 3 p.m. Dec. 6.
The concert will feature the Singing Quakers and Women’s Chorus under the direction of Mark Bartel and the Concert Choir directed by Rolaine Hetherington. The 200-voice Friends University Choral Union will also sing selections collectively..
“If there is any season that is associated with singing, it is Christmas,” said Bartel, director of choral music. “Singing expresses the meaning and feelings of Christmas. The mission of our choirs is first to be inspired ourselves, and then to inspire others through high quality choral performance.”
This year’s music selection will span the various aspects of the Christmas story and the human response to the Christmas message with a wide range of eras, languages, instrumentation, and music styles, such as classical, gospel and traditional, Bartel said.
