IT’S NEVER TOO EARLY TO JOIN IN THE FUN!
Download a Team Registration Form or Become a Sponsor!

Please join us on Saturday, October 4th,  at All Star Adventures for a few fun-filled hours of golf and gifts galore!  Participating teams receive event t-shirts, compete for best score, team scores and other prize categories. Everyone enjoys donuts, pizza and ice-cold water and most of all—supporting the Wichita Radio Reading Service.

The Wichita Radio Reading Service has for more than 30 years provided free, closed-circuit radio broadcast readings of local and national newspapers, magazines and novels to over 3,500 listeners in South Central Kansas.  WRRS listeners are area citizens who suffer from vision, physical or cognitive handicaps that limit their ability to read the printed word.  As our population ages, new listeners are joining the service at a rate of 10-12 per month.  Your support will help us provide this vital connection for many in our area communities.

Sponsors are needed for this year’s event!   Sponsorship levels include:

Wichita Radio Reading Service

WRRS: WICHITA RADIO READING SERVICE

Mission Statement
WRRS provides the print handicapped of South Central Kansas with daily readings of newspapers and current periodicals, while enhancing and extending the services of KMUW and WSU.

WRRS' local programming consists of over 150 volunteers reading the Wichita Eagle and national newspapers, magazines and novels. Programming is also obtained from the In-Touch Network during overnight hours. In addition, poetry readings, short stories and other creative presentations are provided by local volunteers.

WRRS is available to any person who due to a physical, vision or cognitive handicap is no longer able to read 14-point type with ease.  Area residents may apply for a receiver designed to pick up only the special subcarrier signal.  Upon receipt of a completed application, WRRS will loan listeners a pre-tuned receiver.  We invite you to help us “Spread the Word” about WRRS. Month after month for several years we have been introducing you to our volunteer readers at the Wichita Radio Reading Service (WRRS). There have been hundreds more over the service's 30-year history than we could tell you about in a book, let alone this space.

They cut across every line of the community and their experience among their peers ranges from fledgling first-year substitute to 25-year veteran. What draws them to read for the print handicapped is as diverse as they are. Some have blind friends or relatives, others simply like to read aloud, or it fulfills a need to be of service.

Their methods vary as well. Most read live, usually in one-hour blocs at the WRRS studio. Some are recorded and played back later as well. A few are pre-recorded for special playback times.

Financial contributions are necessary to maintain this valuable community service.

If you are interested in volunteering at the service, making a financial contribution, or know someone who would definitely benefit from the use of the Wichita Radio Reading Service, please call 978-6600. WRRS is a vital, valuable service which will always need a serious commitment in time and talent.
