The Live & Learn Lecture this month is at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 12. Wichita Public Radio, the University of Kansas School of Medicine – Wichita and the Medical Society of Sedgwick County will present Donna Sweet, MD,  discussing “HIV/AIDS: Where We Are and Where We’re Going.”  Dr. Sweet is best known for medical treatment and research on HIV/AIDS where she has been recognized both locally and nationally.

This lecture series is at the KU School of Medicine – Wichita campus at 1010 N. Kansas, located at the 8th/9th Street exit on I-135. The event is free and open to the public, but reservations are requested by calling 316-293-2643.

Dr. Sweet’s lecture will include discussion and understanding of the current epidemiology and statistics regarding HIV; current CDC guidelines for routine testing of everyone for HIV; information about the rapid HIV test and where it is available; and the value and improved treatment outcomes with early intervention prior to the occurrence of illness.

KMUW’s Frank Dudgeon will present an interview featuring Dr. Sweet, during Morning Edition, Monday, December 11. The interview will air at 5:50 a.m., 7:50 a.m., and 9:50 a.m.

Dr. Sweet has multiple roles in medical education and patient care at the KU School of Medicine.  She is a professor at KUSM-W, as well as director of Internal Medicine Education at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis, and the director and principal investigator of the Kansas AIDS Education and Training Center.  In addition, she is the immediate past-chair of the Board of Regents, American College of Physicians. She is a native Wichitan, a graduate of Wichita State University and the KU School of Medicine.
